BBC America Contemplates Going Rogue Over 12th Doctor Who Choice

NEW YORK, NY – BBC America’s previously reported disenchantment with the casting of 55-year-old Scottish actor Peter Capaldi as the 12th incarnation of Doctor Who may be even more profound than originally estimated.  In spite of repeated admonitions to remain calm, the US wing of the global British media empire has reportedly quickly moved beyond the grumbling stage.   Less than 24 hours after the global announcement, executives at BBC America have quietly begun to explore what is being termed, at least in the UK, as the “Nuclear Option” – A US-made version of Doctor Who.
The impetus for the discussions, according to those with direct information, revolves around a rights package for an un-produced feature-length Doctor Who film that date back to the 1990′s.  “An entertainment law dream team was hastily assembled and has provided an opinion that would allow BBC America to create it’s own Doctor Who series” noted an unnamed source with direct connections to aforementioned actions.  Although no names have been attached to the project thus far, speculation for the producing entity currently revolves around US based online film streaming organization, Netflix and television streamer Hulu.  Netflix is considered the front-runner due to the combination of its recent success in original programming such as House of Cards, Arrested Development, and Orange is the New Black and its increasingly global reach.   “Trust me”, the aforementioned source noted wryly, “The irony that the most successful Netflix original to date, ‘House of Cards’, is a remake of BBC series hasn’t gone unnoticed”.
